If you’re like me and have perfectionist tendencies then you’re familiar with perfect getting in the way of progress. You know it’s frustrating to discover that your efforts to make things just right actually didn’t make much at all.
Luckily there’s a simple method for getting over the hurdles created by perfectionism and it comes from the great tennis legend, Arthur Ashe.
Start where you are. Don’t start tomorrow. Don’t start after a bunch of research and planning. Start right where are you, right now. Just start. Sounds easy, but as you know, for the perfectionist this is very hard.
Use what you have. Don’t wait for the right tools, just use what you have. Get resourceful. Or don’t. The bottom line is just get busy. I know, this too is a lot to ask for the perfectionist. Yet it is so simple, right?
Do what you can. This is the best step because it’s forgiving. Whatever you’re looking to do, it doesn’t have to be perfect. In fact, it’s not going to be perfect. So, do what you can and let it be good enough. If nothing else, tell yourself it’s practice because you know practice makes…
